More than 100 students converged on the Cal State L.A. campus Tuesday afternoon to rally in support of National Voter Registration Day, a non-partisan initiative aimed at encouraging college students to register to vote for the Nov. 4 General Election.
“Casting a vote is an act of engagement” and is in line with the University’s mission of engagement, service and the public good, Cal State L.A. President William A. Covino said during his opening remarks.
Covino was joined by Congressman Xavier Becerra; Hilda Solis, former U.S. Secretary of Labor and L.A. County Supervisor-elect; Dean Logan, Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk; and former Assemblyman Warren Furutani, now with Asian Americans Advancing Justice, an organization dedicated to civil and human rights.
Rikki Martinez of Power 106 helped kick off the event, and State Senator Alex Padilla stopped by later to meet the young voters on campus.
