Cal State LA is one of the nation’s top regional universities in the U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings.

Cal State LA ranks 24th among all private and public regional universities in the western United States, according to the 2023 rankings released this week.

Among public regional universities in the West, Cal State LA continues to rank 8th.

“Cal State LA offers students a transformative education,” said Cal State LA President William A. Covino. “Our U.S. News & World Report rankings reflect the steadfast dedication of our students, faculty, staff and alumni.”

U.S. News & World Report relies on key measurements to develop its rankings. These include graduation rates, alumni giving, class size, and student-faculty ratio, areas in which Cal State LA continues to achieve significant success.

The university recorded strong marks for its undergraduate engineering, business and nursing programs, economic diversity, affordability, and social mobility in the latest rankings.

Two Cal State LA programs were featured among the nation’s best undergraduate programs and have been included in the U.S. News & World Report rankings for more than two decades.

The engineering program in the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology is one of top five in the nation among public, master’s awarding institutions, excluding military academies. In a separate category, Cal State LA’s undergraduate computer science program is ranked among the top 20 in California.

The business program in the College of Business and Economics continues to be one of the top 10 in California among public institutions.

Cal State LA was also included in the category for undergraduate nursing programs. The program, which is housed in the Patricia A. Chin School of Nursing, was ranked among the top five in California.

U.S. News & World Report recognized Cal State LA for its economic diversity, which exemplifies the university’s commitment to educational access. Cal State LA is once again listed as one of the Best Value Schools and among the Top Performers on Social Mobility.

This year, Cal State LA earned a spot in two additional categories, ranking as one of the top five most innovative schools and one of the best regional universities for undergraduate teaching in the West.

The university was ranked 10th among the best regional universities in the West for undergraduate veterans and active-duty service members.
