More than 6,000 Cal State LA students will graduate during Commencement 2023 from May 22 to 26.
Commencement will feature 10 separate college-based ceremonies in Commencement Pavilion, a formal event space created in Lot 5 on the northside of campus. About 28,000 guests are expected to attend the events. Graduating students will have their names called out as they cross the stage in front of their family and friends during the festivities, which take place during Cal State LA’s 75th anniversary.
“We are so proud of the Class of 2023 for achieving their dreams of earning a university degree,” Cal State LA President William A. Covino said. The ceremonies will be Covino’s final Commencement at Cal State LA as president before his retirement in July.
Cal State LA and the Trustees of the California State University system will award two honorary doctorates during the festivities. Cal State LA alumnus George L. Pla, an entrepreneur and philanthropist, will receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters during the 9 a.m. ceremony on May 24. Cal State LA alumnus Guillermo “Willie” Zuñiga, emeritus president of Grifols Biologicals LLC, will receive an honorary Doctor of Letters during the 9 a.m. ceremony on May 26.
Parking staff will direct all graduates and guests to Structure E (all levels) and Structure C (blue levels only). Parking is free in these designated areas.
Friends and family of graduates can also watch the livestream of each ceremony at an alternate viewing location on campus. The alternate viewing opportunity is in the Golden Eagle Ballrooms located on the third floor of the Golden Eagle building across from the University Bookstore. This location will not require tickets and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
