More than 5,500 Cal State LA students will graduate during Commencement 2022 from May 23 to 27.
Commencement will feature 10 separate college-based ceremonies in Commencement Pavilion, a formal event space created in Lot 5 on the northside of campus. About 25,000 guests are expected to attend the events. Graduating students will have their names called out as they cross the stage in front of their family and friends during the festivities, which take place during Cal State LA’s 75th anniversary.
“We are so proud of the Class of 2022 and all they have accomplished,” Cal State LA President William A. Covino said. “Commencement reminds us of why we are here: to support our students as they achieve their dreams of earning a university degree.”
Cal State LA and the Trustees of the California State University system will award honorary doctorates during the festivities. The honorees are the late Sal Castro, longtime educator, social justice advocate and Cal State LA alumnus, who will be honored posthumously on May 23; Cal State LA alumnus Richard D. Cordova, president of The Cordova Group and former president and chief executive officer of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, on May 25; and David Henry Hwang, playwright, screenwriter and professor, on May 26.
Parking staff will direct all graduates and guests to Structure E (all levels) and Structure C (blue levels only). Parking is free in these designated areas.
The festivities will also be livestreamed on the Cal State LA website and YouTube channel, starting with the first ceremony at 9 a.m. on May 23.
Friends and family of graduates can also watch the livestream of each ceremony at an alternate on-campus viewing location. The alternate viewing opportunity is in the Golden Eagle Ballrooms located on the third floor of the Golden Eagle building across from the University Bookstore. This location will not require tickets and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
