In addition to President Covino, who was on hand to accept the award on behalf of the university at the WELA YMCA gala event on March 13, alumni Micah Zimmermaker, who works for the County of Los Angeles, was presented the Frank Quevedo Ambassador Award. Zimmermaker received his bachelor’s degree in sociology from Cal State L.A. in 2011. Cal State L.A. alumni Peter Ruiz of the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation, and Willie Zuñiga, CEO of Grifols, were also recognized for their significant ongoing support of the WELA YMCA.
Founded in 1982 by a group of business and community leaders, WELA YMCA, located in Boyle Heights, has long had a strong presence and substantial success in enriching the lives of families and children.
Congratulations to the WELA YMCA for another great year of service and to President Covino and our dedicated alumni for making a difference in our community.
