John Eleby graduated from Cal State LA’s College of Natural and Social Sciences with a Master of Arts in Sociology during Commencement 2023 on May 24.

Eleby, who received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Cal State LA in 2021, is a father, leader, and a student.

While at Cal State LA, he served in student government, Associated Students, Inc., as a graduate academic senator and as vice president for academic governance. Eleby is committed to ensuring students’ voices are heard and helped appoint students to serve on university committees and provided training so they could learn how to advocate for issues on campus.

“I am never afraid to speak out, and with the sociology skills that I picked up at Cal State LA, I know how to organize more smartly and collect and use data to display the changes students need on campus,” Eleby said. “Failure is never an option.”
